comment What is the correct way to stop the nagios ndo2db daemon?
@Jehy - good find. I spelunked the code to see how the config was written out and discovered it was enough to just add the lock_file column due to the way that each column maps one to one with the ndo2db config key/val pairs. The only problem with applying those patches is that you're going to have to remember this when you come to upgrade and re-apply. I have my own mod I keep needing to manually slot back in each time I upgrade: forge.centreon.com/issues/2575 - it's a minor inconvenience though.

Can you see the update to my question. You're correct about the .pfx file. However see the second part of my update.

@kce - it definitely wasn't there. That's why I built a brand new clean VM just to check my sanity.

So...back to secedit or registry hacking with procmon to see what gets changed when using gpedit.msc then?

I want to read and change local group policy settings, i.e. settings configured via the gpedit.msc MMC snap-in.

comment What is the significance of the @ prefix in logstash field names?
Thanks for the answer. I'm running the latest, but some config examples still use the @ prefix and I couldn't find any mention of it in the docs/elsewhere.

comment Is it possible to use IIS 7 Application Pool Identities on a 2008 Domain Controller
@c00000fd - sadly won't happen, OP asked his question then never re-appeared to follow up. WRT to ICACLS, I've no idea why the UI sometimes doesn't work. We experienced this on some servers prior to rolling out SP1, after SP1 the GUI seemed to work.

comment let users run program as administrator - windows xp 'sudoers'?
There isn't really any equivalent mechanism. You're kinda stuck with either creating a user to run that regular (scheduled?) task with the desired rights or nothing.

comment How disable notifications in Centreon through Nagios?
When asking questions like this it is useful to include: Nagios verstion, NDOUtils version and Centreon version. Please can you update your question to include this information. Thanks.

This is a neat little app: mobaxterm.mobatek.net - no fiddling around with XMing and PuTTY or Cygwin which I could never get working satisfactorily (credit goes to Sam who was one of the SO devs who mentioned it in the comments: samsaffron.com/archive/2013/05/03/…)

Is it definitely 403 and not 503? If 403, do you get a 403 sub code when this happens? e.g. 403.xx

comment Monit versus Nagios
Nagios is like the Swiss Army knife of monitoring tools, it is hugely configurable and flexible. Have a look at Centreon (centreon.com) which is a real nice front end to nagios (or their own fork of nagios core).

comment How to kill a hung service on Windows 2008R2
The other problem was that we couldn't live with it like this. The service is NSClient++ which we use in conjunction with nagios. I couldn't even get a fresh service exe to run and respond to polling requests, I think because these zombied processes were still hanging onto port 5666 which it listens on (could certainly see one of them still holding onto the port in TCPView and I couldn't close it).
