comment What do I need to mount devices with threaded round holes in a server rack with square holes?
+1 for the cage-nut puller. I've gotten some real bad cuts pulling those things in and out.

comment Lync 2010 Standard Server Collocation
The graphic in the Q seems to suggest that Edge and the SE FE can be collocated, as long as I have a VLAN to the DMZ? Is that possible, or do I need two physical servers?

@ChrisS Yes. First thing I checked actually.

comment IP Address Conflict with Router/Firewall
The interesting thing is that the firewall actually does not have that address - it only has 192.2.40.1. We've looked through our DHCP logs and see nothing regarding 192.2.40.17.

@ChrisS I'm aware of the IP Address issue. It was setup a looooong time ago by an uninformed IT guy. It's on the todo list. I've experienced the issue both on Win7 and Ubuntu 11.04 (dual boot)

@RobinGill It would appear it is not just my local NIC. I have tested it on multiple computers, and they all show the weird ARP listing. Also, sniffing ARP traffic doesn't show anything unusual.

OK - so that sounds good so far. Could you go into a bit of detail on the process of getting a reference image, sysprep, capture, and that WDS + MDT thing? I don't know anything about any of those :)

@SpacemanSpiff That was a good check, but again no luck. The only value in the WindowsUpdate/AU folder is UseWUServer.

Just ran gpresult /z (Thanks for the >result.txt tip.. that was way long!). That's a real handy flag - I never knew that. Unfortunately, nothing of interest came up. The only update related policies were WUServer, UseWUServer, and WUStatusServer. Unfortunately.

@Matt Yes, it was around 2:00. Which is conveniently the same time that the unrelated GPO is set to run. However, I confirmed that this is not a result of that other GPO, by checking both RSoP and gpresult.

@AshleySteel The GPO only has one item in it - setting the WSUS url. As I mentioned on one of the questions, I have already applied a specific GPO to force this not to happen, but I'm more interested in why it happened in the first place.

@spacemanspiff as mentioned in the question, i checked gpedit.msc and there was nothing in there about updates. Unfortunately.

@Flash I agree that that is a solution to the problem, but I'd like to know the cause of the problem. I'm not a fan of leaving unresolved issues lingering my network. Just seems like a bad practice.

@ShaneMadden Nope. We've been very intentional about not forcing servers to update. And as far as I'm aware, there's only a few updates that have required deadlines, and those should have been installed years ago.

comment How do you make it obvious you are on a production system?
This tutorial has a good idea.. It actually puts a "~ssh" after your prompt whenever you're in a SSH session: answers.oreilly.com/topic/…
