comment Netapp Filer - can I resize an aggregrate?
I believe this is technically inaccurate. Aggregates cannot be sized downwards. As this post and others have pointed out, aggregates can be grown on the fly.

comment Early signs of a bad sysadmin
Very good points. Some of those problems are infectious as well. Even if a "bad admin" finally moves on or is moved on or loses their credibility, their finger-pointing and "tear it all out" critiques can been like weeds taking root in the minds of management and whomever is left on a team. Kind of similar to the "say it 2 times and it must be true" syndrome.

It's surprising how much damage can be done in just a few months and how long it can take to set things right. Just think though...sometimes an admin like that can stay entrenched for years.

You can only do what you can do...if your company can't or won't vault with a bonded offsite operation, it limits the possible solutions. I'll edit my answer above with some additional thoughts.

comment Running 1 DC physically and a second virtually
This can be a serious gotcha...it applies equally to any restore of a previous version of AD when there are 1 or more current/live DCs running but the ease of using VM snapshots as "safety nets" over the last few years has resulted in this previously somewhat rare issue cropping up more frequently.

comment An honest security ethics nondisclosure question I need help with
good points. Likewise, revealing that you are aware of the problems years later really opens you up to some uncomfortable questions if the discussion bubbles over into legal and business areas. It's unlikely that part of the agreement was that you'd keep "checking on them" for years to come.
