comment Is there a dedicated administrator connection on DB2?
Aha, IN EXCLUSIVE MODE seems to be a good thing! Thanks.

I import data initially, but after this phase, I want my software to be able to insert records and have some columns automatically filled.

comment How to allow a group to change user passwords?
The only difference is using a dn.subtree instead of *, right? Why should this work better? I'll give it a try, when I'm back in this project, what could take some days.

comment How to change the collation of a table/column?
Thanks for your answer, but since I could not find anything in the manual, and can't believe this isn't possible, I asked here. Secondly, I don't want to define a collation for every user but choose one and stick with it. If there is a performance impact, why is it? Doesn't the database layout data or index structure in the given collation?

@Spencer Ruport: MSSQL 2005 Express is free like in free beer, not like in free speach! MySQL is open source.

I still think it's cheap. If you pay your employees something between 30,000 and 100,000$ a year, you buy them a new 2000$ Laptop every two years and so on, 50$ are just a piece of cake.

comment How to find the next generated value for a auto-increment column?
That's a good answer, thanks. But this only tells me, there is no way to write a single statement to restart the counter. Do you know if there is some magic switch for the "db2 import"-command that can solve this? And, is there a way to find all tables that have this problem (a counter lower than an existing id)?
