comment Can I have a password that only works for Exchange (not the domain)?
That is very useful information about the restricted accounts, thanks. Do you know what version of Exchange is needed, eg 2010+ perhaps? If you have time to update your answer that'd be superb!

BES Express has worked out just fine. You mentioned ActiveSync, did you mean you can set up a (non BB or perhaps a BB10) phone with ActiveSync using a password that is not the users domain password?

comment Kernel panic during rsync
@JennyD, I switched to btrfs and had the same issue. Then I switched to LVM snapshots and the crashes have gone away. Still no idea why unfortunately.

comment Mail deliverability rDNS best practice
What problems should I expect if I configure my mailserver/rDNS/spf to use example.com rather than mail.example.com? You have me a bit worried with "Your mail server should be configured to identify itself in the HELO command as mail.example.com, not example.com…"!

comment LVM dangers and caveats
Very helpful thanks, +1, but I'd like to make one point: saying "RHEL 6 uses 2.6.32" is a bit misleading "there is no one kernel version number that accurately represents the RHEL 6 kernel". Is it really the case that any release of RHEL6 has this issue? I suspect not, and I'd be very surprised if 6.4 does even though it is nominally also based on 2.6.32.

comment Kernel panic during rsync
I'm not quite sure what --delay-updates does but it isn't compatible with --inplace which I think I need to avoid doubling up storage requirements at the target end (some of the files being transferred are in the 100s of Gb)

Thanks for the suggestions I'm using OCFS2 (I should have mentioned that earlier, sorry) and atime (not noatime or relatime)
