comment Only capture HTTP post requests through tcpdump
tcpdump cannot decrypt SSL/TLS (HTTPS). For this you have to use tools like ssldump or Wireshark. Additionally tcpdump and ssldump do not have filters for layers higher than L4. From Wireshark command line tools you can use tshark with very powerful read and display filters which operate up to L7.

comment How big (in bits) is a Unix UID?
On my system (Ubuntu 12.04) and other Debian based systems the header file is: /usr/include/$(gcc -print-multiarch)/bits/typesizes.h or alternatively: /usr/include/$(dpkg-architecture -qDEB_HOST_MULTIARCH)/bits/typesizes.h

comment How to make multiple VMs share the same folder on host datastore
Does ESXi really allow to simultaneously run two VMs with the same single .vmdk? Does not ESXi lock .vmdk files?

comment Is there a way to clone an existing VM on an ESXi server without having to re-import it?
Unfortunately Converter is not being updated for Linux platform and the latest version 4.0.1 is not able to convert current versions of virtual machines. Converter for Windows running in a VM has problems accessing VMs through VMware shares.

comment .bash_profile isn't sourced during logon
When you call bash as sh it runs in Bourne shell compatibility mode and it will not source ~/.bash_profile. It will source ~/.profile at the first place instead.

comment Strange dropped packets coming from port 8888 and with ACK or ACK+PSH set
What were the source IP addresses? Did not you have connections open to port 8888 before the incident and for how long after the server exposition were the packets from 8888 coming? Also it could have been an ACK scan.
