comment How do I get RRAS to forward all traffic destined to a particular external IP to a particular internal IP?
You are correct, I meant external virtual switch. 1and1.com doesn't offer Hyper-V as a feature, per se. They give you a dedicated server that you can do whatever you like with, so long as you play nicely on their network. Apparently, having VMs with external IPs goes against their policy. Why? Your guess is as good as mine. Probably better, actually =)

There is nothing in the WindowsPowerShell folder. Luckily (wherever it actually is) it was in the path so just typing PowerShell at the command prompt worked. I could then use Get-VM to list the VMs, Stop-VM to stop the offender, and finally Get-VM again to confirm it was stopped!

This is all useful information. Thank you very much. I particularly liked that you named specific models.

Perfect. Now I at least have terms to google. I should be able to get a working solution with this information. Thank you.

comment When is it appropriate to run chkdsk?
Sounds like I will stick to my mass chkdsk ritual, just to be sure, but TIL about NTFS self-healing! Neat!
