comment LINUX ADD USER Command shell
@RicardoRosa: Before you come back, do us all a favor and read the help center (specially this) and then decide if Server Fault is for you. Super User and Unix & Linux exist.

comment calculate reserved ip address based on mac address
There is no guarantee that there won't be any collisions for this method (it you can configure dhcpd to do this at all). Having collisions is even quite likely (see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Birthday_problem).

What security patches do you mean? Are you aware that Ubuntu backports patches into older version? changelogs.ubuntu.com/changelogs/pool/main/o/openssl/…

comment Which Linux package contains the 'top' command?
@Satanicpuppy: Who doesn't have procps installed. Anyway, yum whatprovides '*/top' also works if you don't know the path, as said.

@Zoredache: 1000x times this. Check it, test it. No one cares it's not your mess if something breaks and you don't have a working backup.

Server Fault assumes that you control the systems you work on. As this is not the case, your question is off-topic here.

comment Trying to set PTR on CentOS 6.5
Did they delegate DNS for this netblock to you? Some providers will only offer some kind of web interface for you to edit the reverse entries. Check with their docs/support.

comment Trying to set PTR on CentOS 6.5
Do you own this netblock? In most cases, this has to be set by the provider hosting your server/IP and you can't just set up a reverse zone for this IP in your DNS server and expect this to work.

comment Source of syslog bind query denied message
named wants to query something and is forbidden by Google. . That's wrong. Someone wants to lookup google.com and is forbidden by the named config. And if you need to run a DNS server and don't want an open resolver (and you shouldn't...), this is also pretty normal and not a problem. But don't run a DNS server if you don't really need it....

comment What is RAID 5 write logic with 8 drives running SQL 2008?
@Alex: You need professional help to rescue data from a broken RAID, without it you have essentially zero chance to recover anything yourself. But professional data recovery is extremely expensive, you can look forward to a 4-5 figure bill if they are successful in your case. This makes it too expensive for most people to even try it, which in turn equals lost data if you can't/won't pay the price. Regarding success: Even the best experts in this field can't guarantee that they will be able to recover everything!
