comment How to use a Volume Shadow Copy to make backups
@Kev: Yes it does, but you should definitely test it yourself. If you find a problem, please tell me here. You can use Robocopy or any other tool you prefer, the mounted volume behaves like a normal drive.

Hm. Just tested, does not seem to work (On Windows 7, used REG_EXPAND_SZ data type). Can you re-confirm this actually works for you, please?

comment Will IIS always be installed as fully patched?
@Richard: Does that mean there are no patches that affect IIS and something else, and may be downloaded to patch that "other thing" even though there is no IIS installed?

comment Is there a self-contained, easy-to-use and secure WLAN hotspot solution?
Yes, something like this is what I have thought of initially, without actually knowing what exists in that direction. Will have a look at this, too. Thank you! (+1)

Yes, I know that I'm the one that will get the calls anyway. ;-) That's part of why I'm looking for something that is not too hard to set up and not too easy to break. I've just had a glance at the CoovaAP page and it looks like a viable solution. Maybe a OpenWRT-based router is the best solution for this, I think I'm gonna suggest it to them.

P.S.: So ChilliSpot is not under active development any more, correct?

Actually, the low-tech, small-area, single access-point SOHO solution is what I had in mind. Scaling issues do not apply, fortunately. Config-and-forget because I have been asked this by a friend with close-to-zero computer expertise (let alone Linux), I'm not too experienced either when it comes to Linux, and I don't want to give a recommendation that basically binds me as their primary contact for all "please help, something's broken" situations. :-)

+1 One more bit of info: Don't forget to mention the instance name via the -S ".\SomeInstance" if you get login errors from sqlcmd.
