comment Is there a way to force all cPanel users to change their passwords one time?
Are you asking about how to reset all user passwords yourself, prompting the customers to apply for a lost password, or are you asking about how to force the users to change their password upon next login?

comment Is there an advantage to load balancing using multiple VMs all on the same hardware?
Well, It's just that I agree with 100% of the points that Bart makes for the endorsement of virtualization for this question.

comment What is the difference between a PDU and a power strip (both 120V, 15A)?
I really like side-mounted (vertical) PDUs instead of horizontal units, as they generally don't take up any rack-space that would otherwise be filled with servers. Additionally, any equipment damage protection reimbursement that APC may be providing (in case of power-related issues/damage) will probably not be honored if you don't use rated PDUs.

I agree. Running critical services on the Hyper-V Host Server is a Bad Idea.

comment Best solution for 2 servers for HA
@Richard Adnams Do your Windows 2008 servers have Hyper-V? If so, you may be able to perform the virtualization in-place. It's been a while since I read MS's licensing documentation, but I believe Hyper-V allows you to run the host and one(1) guest using the host's license. Configure the first guest VM to be one of the mirrored/clustered servers, or P2V the primary machine to be a Hyper-V guest VM. Then, install an additional Linux guest VM (SUSE or RHEL are officially supported, others probably work just fine.) Perform the HAProxy/Heaartbeat configuration on the Linux VM.

comment Best solution for 2 servers for HA
You might consider virtualizing those windows servers using the hardware you've already got, and run HAProxy with Heartbeat as the front-end/load-balancer. In that scenario, either physical server could be down (whether scheduled or not) and a single IP address would be shared between the HAProxy servers.

comment What's your favorite SSL cert provider?
Most Thawte certificates now require a CA chaining certificate nowadays. This can be a challenge in mixed server-type environments.

comment “fallback” http server
I was just about to suggest the same thing! The backup server could even be running on the same physical server as the default server, either running a separate instance of the web server, or a different web server entirely.

comment Terminate short CAT5 uplinks?
Option 3. Remember to terminate the ends with as little un-twisting as possible. As little as one inch of untwisting can drop the cable an entire rating (e.g. cat5e -> cat5. cat5 -> cat3). Also, depending on local building codes, you may be required to use plenum cable.

comment Running a webserver behind a firewall, is it secure?
+1 for denyhosts. Alternately, fail2ban is a good solution, and can send triggers to your firewall to block the offending source IP address.

comment Dedicated Server or Actually Virtual?
I agree with @JamesRyan. It is (getting more and more) common to virtualize dedicated servers to make the guest OS easy to move around if the hardware dies.

comment MySQL Monitoring - Cloud Instances - No System Access
What kind of monitoring are you trying to get? Very little is beyond nagios, xenoss, etc... plugin capabilities. If you could give ups a hint about the type of statistics you're trying to collect, that would be very helpful.

comment Virtual Host on centos
I agree. The ip/new_site_folder_name scheme is not a function of apache. It's frequently part of some control panel software (such as Plesk, or cPanel), but it does not exist on a default apache installation on CentOS.

comment Extreme fine tuning MySQL performance wise on a Linux server
Using Wordpress, the user generally doesn't have the opportunity to optimize the queries. One would hope that such a well-supported application has its queries well-tuned by default.
