comment How does the HTTP GET method work in relation to DNS protocol?
gethostbyname() is somewhat outdated. One would better use getaddrinfo()...

comment Why is a named pipe as slow as writing to a file?
Writing to /dev/null is actually quite cheap, while writing anywhere else - be it a file, a FIFO, a pipe or whatever - is much more expensive as it needs "a lot" of handling effort.

comment Is disk serial readable from supermicro chassis?
But obviously they did the wrong thing: "they told us that it is very hard to read the serial number and they mistakenly took other disks out". If they can't do the right thing, they have to ask instead of guessing. Guessing is much more unprofessional than asking, IMO.

@TomTom "They did the best they could given the information explicitly provided by the OP." by far not. Better ask twice instead of doing something wrong once...

comment Why is DNS returning two different results at random?
@Shadur "Common" are as well values as low as 60 s, for dynamic DNS applications.

comment Why is there a difference with Unix date between 2 and 3 months
If you are providing dates in American MDY format, plase use /es for separating. Even better, as we are an international community here, use proper ISO dates such as 2014-09-01.

comment Is there a way to do a remote “ls” much like “scp” does a remote copy?
In the 2nd code line, the { } are not needed.

... if you have real shell access. Some systems have a special shell which will only accept certain scp and rsync calls, maybe sftp as well, and that's it.

comment Why are there only four primary partitions on an MBR disk?
"... because a lot of disk and motherboard manufacturers would have to agree to implement a new standard." What? How that? It is completely irrelevant for the disk, and even the mainboard shouldn't need to care about that. All the mainboard needs to do is read sector 0 and execute its code. Recognizing partitions is the job of that code.
