comment Is MariaDB a secure replacement for MySQL?
It would seem that if there is a known exploit for MySQL, then the exploit could be tested against MariaDB, and vice versa. It would seem almost irresponsible not to do so.

comment apache2: Get a list of registered handlers
@JennyD: Challenge accepted! I've added a grep filter for commented lines. Nice thinking, thanks!

comment apache2: Get a list of registered handlers
@JennyD: I think that would remove lines with comments after the declarations, such as AddHandler cgi-script .cgi # Ben needs CGI.

comment Choosing between meaningful and meaningless hostnames
Though superficially an opinion-based question, the actual answers are fact-based with empirical polling and based on human cognitive function (how the human brain remembers things). In my opinion this question should be reopened.

comment Do the SSH or FTP protocols tell the server to which domain I am trying to connect?
Actually, as of 2015 the unedited answer is still correct in the majority of cases. That may change in the next few years, though.

Thank you, this will be an important consideration in the next few years when people come across this issue and google this question.

comment Do the SSH or FTP protocols tell the server to which domain I am trying to connect?
Just the generic Login authentication failed for FTP and Permission denied for SSH. The actual connection is fine, and I've quadruple-checked the login credentials.

comment Logging into an AWS EC2 instance from another machine in EC2
@Bazze: No, I'm not running iptables or other firewalls on any of the machines. Just AWS Security Groups. Regarding the link, I see that I've already upvoted that question and answer in the past! I am aware of the IP Address remapping mentioned, in fact that is why I whitelist per Security Group as the post suggests.

comment Logging into an AWS EC2 instance from another machine in EC2
@Bazze: Thanks, I edited the question to clarify that those are inbound rules. As this is not a VPC Security Group, there are no outbound rules. Everything is allowed outbound, there is not even a tab for it.

comment How to edit command completion for ssh on bash?
Thank you Steve! I was able to use your guide to enable SSH autocompletion in Ubuntu which is an especially problematic system due to known_hosts hashing.
