That's what I thought. I was hoping the dns changes this kb suggested would circumvent needing to do this. The AD admin who suggested this thinks that it's rare to need to look up the A record for admin.example.com

Right I would prefer just using admin.example.com but the dns entries based on the KB seem to not require setting a dns A record for admin.example.com. I want to avoid overwriting the web owner's A record if possible.

Thanks for your quick response. Sound like good ideas, I will have to check with the DNS administrators on that. What's your feeling about the article I put which suggests adding certain DNS records to get AD working. Would this still be relevant for windows 2008?

@ColdT that worked pretty good. I had to fiddle with the firewall for the PCs a bit but I was able to do nice pivot tables with the data. Did you want to put your links as an answer?
