I'm a software engineer working on Google Analytics. In my 20% time, I created the Google Spreadsheets formula bar and formula highlighting.

I found out the problem is that my regex is not matching by running rsyslog in debug mode and looking at the logs it created. Do you have any ideas what I can do to fix my regex? It looks okay to me.

Thanks. Is it supposed to be $msg? The docs have :msg. rsyslog.com/doc/rsyslog_conf_filter.html

Thanks for the answer. I'm having a hard time reading it due to formatting though. Is everything after the "//" a comment? Is the "& ~" commented out and not do anything? I've updated my question to include what was my best guess and would really appreciate it if you can tell me if I'm doing anything wrong.

comment What are Ubuntu cloud images?
I agree it's a terribly incomplete answer. It's the most I've found, but would love to hear more regarding the specific ways in which the images are different besides merely their intended uses. I would welcome more detail from the community.

Well presumably /etc/init.d/xx restart produced some error which puppet swallowed. That restart call is working fine for me now, but it's still good to know if I run into a service failing to start in the future that I need to try it manually to see what the error is. I'd accept your answer as an answer except it's a comment, so I can't :-)

I can't reproduce the error at the moment. Are there no logs and the solution is to just try it manually and see what the error is?
