Well, the host is an IP that's hard to remember, would the entry still work if I edited the prefix to an easier to remember string?

I did, for some reason, use sudo for the scp in question when I got the problematic response about the authenticity of the host. Could that sudo be the reason for it?

"I can't explain why you get the warning when using scp" - I can't explain that either. Could you give me some directions as to what I should do to make sure that the host is not a target of an attack?

Thanks. It's the same user at the same host. Based on your instructions I did ssh-keygen -lf ~/.ssh/id_rsa.pub and it showed a different fingerprint. What should I do?
