These instructions don't seem to match at all with the graphical interface VMWare is giving me, so I'm not quite sure how to do this..

comment How to start compiling Linux in a KVM virtual machine?
Thanks for this! These are more the instructions I was expecting to find... The only thing is, it doesn't solve my hairy experience with step 4. When I do this, I end up compiling wayyyyyy too many modules. Is there a tutorial on cutting the cruft out of my config?

"dd: destroy disk" :P How does wiping the partition table help? Won't the install wipe the partition table anyway as part of the install?

I agree. That is why I'm wondering what conditions Debian would experience to produce such output. I cannot debug the simulator unless I know which part is malfunctioning.

comment Linux: How to break a large file into smaller files?
Be careful of creating the prefix "new" that you share with the original file "newfile.txt". Now when you try to do cat new* > newfile.txt it will blow up!
