comment find command + exe status diff from 0 when file not found
What about test -e /var/tmp/test.txt? This is what the test command is for.

I wonder that you set an hw address to the additional interface. Are you aware, that the mac adresses started with 00:01:02 used by 3COM? (standards.ieee.org/develop/regauth/oui/oui.txt) Why you need an additional mac address? To answer your question: Don't mute icmp responses but fix the problem or explain what you try to acomplish.

comment multicast and iptables : troubleshooting?
It would be helpfull to tell us which version of netfilter/iptables do you use. If you use the distro standard, please let us know, which linux distro including version information do you use.

comment Auto-login on a Remote Desktop session after reboot
I see no problem. Make a automatic console login with the program in startup. If you use the very same credentials via rdp and you force to use the console connection, you grab this running session. It's not a ideal solution, but i runs. With the /admin parameter at the commandline of mstsc.exe you connect to the concole session. This parameter should version agnostic, so you will verify that via mstsc /? on your client machine.

comment CIFS Mount issue - Unable to write
This should possibly fix the problem on the linux/unix side. The other topic are acls on the server side for user user_support. The best check for that is to test the share with smbclient //<windows-ip>/HS

comment Samba shows each file several times in the same folder
what output do you get if you do dir on the win7 box on the samba share? 190 files are not so much, so this should not be a problem.

comment Why can't the storage_share access my samba share? (ubuntu server 11.04)
This wouldn't solve the problem. The "valid user" and the "* mask" parameters will restrict to some users. The cifs layer will block all other users.

comment samba: config issues
@ethrbunny Ok, thats right and this will run correctly. I miss that the home share is a special one. The sharename is the username, so this is ok. What you need is a lokal unis and samba user with the same name as the windowsuser on the external windows box.
