The result of basename echo ~stephen is downloads. I could use this I suppose echo ~stephen | awk -F/home/ '{print $2}' | awk -F/downloads '{print $1}' but I am still stuck with how to use the output as a variable. Actually that works, thanks

I started with this command ionice -c1 -n0 /etc/init.d/apache2 start but how should I edit the startup script. The web server is password protected and only used by a few users so there should not be a large amount of requests.

Yes I understand that raid0 is not suitable for important data but the data in not important and I prefer to go with the performance boost that raid0 offers.
