comment Why are the prices for broadband bandwidth at data centers much higher than consumer/small business offerings?
You get an upvote from me to compensate the downs a bit. IMHO this is a legitimate Q. Not very good but average (with this I mean, normally you would not get my upvote but current -2 is not ok IMHO).

comment Can NULL RRs still be used or should be generally avoided?
You're right. Didn't see the forest for the trees :-) But besides this just for the record: Is NULL obsolete or not?

I want a placeholder to add some names for later use, not forget them and keep my files better structured.

comment Maintain RAID to keep it healthy - data scrub
Drives relocate themself on behalf of the firmware, I know, but how would the drive know there's an error if it never reads/looks at this particular block? Is a check like mentioned above enough? Hardware RAID-Controllers mostly have the ability for "data scrubbing" which does this. So my question points in that direction just for SW-RAID.

If I remember it correctly, normally it doesn't matter where to set the policy… maybe I should give my answer a little edit.

comment How to add SSL for localhost in RAILS
From the view of the application there is normally no difference if it gets served by http or https. So for simple testing I see no sense in your question...?

comment Hidden and best new features in VMWare ESXi/vSphere 5
This is a QA site. Things like "whats the best..." depends on personal opinions. Would be better toask this in a board to discuss. Good luck with ESX, its a great product to get familiar with.

comment Installing cURL on Ubuntu
As you wrote, dotdeb isn't thought for ubuntu. So the best way would be to get back to start by removing it and using the main apt repos. Don't know why this should break everything...

comment PFSENSE Bridge on of the Network Interfaces
Am I getting you right: pfSense connects to the WAN and has ext. IP like 1.2.3.4. DrayTek sits behind pfSense and they need to access it from WAN over 1.2.3.4 on some ports?

I have no clue why there should be a problem with the key. Please provide more information on error messages.

comment What are the 'gotcha's' a software developer needs to look out for if tasked with setting up a production ready server?
It depends extremely on your demands. closing and than opening is the best way like mfinni said. i know it sounds like a lot of work, but that's needed for a real hardened server. first of all start with pen and paper (or digital equivalent ;-) and take some time writing down what services are needed for the server to do his job. after that, take a coffee break... take your sheet again and overthink your writings. did you forget some? is everything on this list really needed or can you strip down some? building a good firewall is at least half the time planing it.
