comment ASP.Net/ASP.Net MVC Sites Hanging Indefinitely on IIS 8 on Windows 8
@jackncoke Sorry I didn't get back to you earlier - I've been on holiday for a few weeks with no computer. Unfortunately, I can't help you with your problem either (if you haven't already resolved it) as my situation was eventually resolved with a new computer. I can only imagine that I'd manage to change some setting(s) in the system which I shouldn't have or installed something that interfered at a low-level...

Oh right, you asked that in 2012. I guess that happens when you review your profile once per year because you don't spend much time on Serverfault...

Yeah, I was wondering about that - but it seemed more appropriate than Stackoverflow to me and I'm not sure where else I should ask it. The setup is designed to mimic our production environment as close as possible (short of actually working on Windows Server) and this seems to be more a problem with the workings of IIS/Windows than with anything specifically related to development.

Hehe, you're probably right @TomTom - however this happened over a year ago and we haven't been using that server for at least 6 months of that year. In other words, it's completely impossible for us to reproduce. Next time...

comment How to fix “405 - HTTP verb used to access this page is not allowed.” on Windows web server 2008 RS2
Perfect, solved the problem completely for me - particularly the Request Filtering and Handler Mappings section (note for others you should be using "Add Module Mapping" when doing the Handler Mappings step). This solved the issue for me with ASP.Net Web API. Thanks @ariestav

Thanks for the reply Pavel. Unfortunately, we won't be able to try this solution - my colleague tells me that we ended up getting an alternative certificate which no longer gives us any problems.

comment ASP.Net Session Timing Out Rapidly
Well, I'm not sure why I didn't try this in the first place but it lead me to find the cause of the problem. The issue was actually related to excessive virtual memory consumption (someone had configured it wrong in IIS for the App Pool in question). Thanks for the tip.

Yeah, well I'll give the code timeout a go - though we were hoping this was just some strange config problem. We're not doing anything to abandon the session though. This problem was made apparent due to a recurring AJAX call to an ASHX with IRequiresSessionState (which should cause the session to slide) - but we also tested by just refreshing a page rapidly and the same result occurs. So yeah, the session sliding doesn't appear to be working...

Actually, this now leaves us in your situation - we will still have to do this every time we reboot...
