comment Installing VirtualBox and restricting NAT and Bridged Network Adapters for Corporate Security
A sound idea, but the point of developer agility is trying to cut out the need for IT requests and their sometimes 30 day wait times (outside of test, QA and Production environment setup). Something akin to what you are suggesting would involve getting a significant amount of their time and this could take many months.

@TessellatingHeckler Also, I am not in luck apparently since the corporate standard and only approved browser ATM is IE8 and it doesn't appear that this site works on this ancient and embarassing browser. :)

@TessellatingHeckler Well I am generalizing a bit and I am actually trying to get smart and influential people together to talk about this, but it is one of these problems that is akin to dismantling a roller coaster single-handedly with only a screwdriver. It is arduous, dangerous and takes a very long time to be successful.

Thanks for your help. I just wanted somebody who understands Direct Access a bit better to say this.

What OS are you running? If it is Windows 64 bit then I doubt your heap size is as big as you think it is. Multiple instances in a clustered or load balanced situation can work around this.

@MattHouser Thanks, my problems are no longer technical though at this point, they are considerably harder trying to convince management to abandon, The hell that you know for the heaven that you don't, but alas that is offtopic here @_@

@ceejayoz The problem is that we are paranoid with money and I will never get the funding to do this until I can give something more concrete than, I/O costs are pretty minimal in my experience. This pay as you need model makes the accountants nervous apparently.

@ceejayoz Good point, on that fact alone it seems that multiple smaller servers is always better.

But if I understand correctly, I will be charged for data transfer to and from my EBS mount correct, it is just a different rate? Or is EBS usage have entirely to do with how much storage is being used?

Thanks for the advice... I do feel like I am drowning though and am paying the price for the last team not keeping up with this stuff. At all. I have an incredible respect and appreciation for sys admins that I never had before.
