comment ZFS shows pool state FAULTED, but all devices are ONLINE; how can I recover my data?
zpool import -fF is your best bet. Let it run, until it returns something. But if you have a working backup: Just restore, thats probably faster.

comment How should I delete ancient archives from FreeNAS?
the raid-1/clone-auto-20140925.0800-2m in your zfs list output is a separate dataset. Since it's named "clone-auto-somedate", I assume it is a clone of an snapshot. A clone is an independent r/w version of a snapshot. Datasets get mountet on zroot/datasetname by default, so thats totally normal (your zroot is raid1). If there is no data in that dataset you need to preserve, you can destroy it using zfs destroy raid-1/clone-auto-20140925.0800-2m. ZFS might prevent you from removing a dataset which has snapshots, so you might remove the snapshots of clone-auto-20140925.0800-2m first.

looks like there might be some snapshots still referring to that data. What does zfs list -t snapshots say?

comment Avoid repeating 'with_items' in Ansible role
I tried to do that with include and with_dict. But unfortunatly thats deprecated. Now I'm searching for a solution, too.

Sorry I didn't mention it specifically - the bridge gets of course configured like you said. Question updated. Regarding the sysctl and the modules - I did that too. I followed the exact guide you're mentioning. If I route the subnet the "normal" way, I can get it to work - just the "use all IPs as host-addresses"-thing seems to make problems.

comment MySQL hangs if connection comes from outside the LAN
(I checked the MTU on all devices which handle the traffic - namely one PC, 2 routers, 3 switches. The Switches have MTU's around 1600, the routers and this PC have exactly 1500)

In the VPN there is already an enforced MTU of 1500. I tried to lower it on the client which runs the app and got down to 1300 without a change regarding MySQL behaviour. I thought about MTU, too but if I connect with mysql-client on the same computer, it can run queries just fine. I'm not quite sure what this means, though.

@JennyD the first Router I was using was in fact blocking ICMP. But I also tried another router which allows all sorts of ICMP traffic - with no difference.

strange. The standard client does not seem to have these problems... I can work on the tables like a charm.

my application is one I'm currently writing. Does not use connection pool but only has 1-3 Connections open at a time.
