comment Are temporary profiles copied from the “Default” profile?
Ok many thanks. Have deployed my file to the Default profile, so tomorrow should yield the results I was hoping for. Appreciate the advice on test setups. Wasn't sure if the evaluation period could be used for this purpose, especially if I have to reinstall repeatedly after the period expires.

Unfortunately we do not have a lab environment. I could setup a quick test on a Hyper-V VM on my PC, but not sure how people feel about unlicensed VMs like that?

Are you asking because you think I should have tried before asking the question? I haven't tried it yet, as I was worried that futzing with the default system profile might have some negative repercussions. Just wanted to confirm the process Windows goes through when creating temporary profiles, and if this is a safe thing to do first.

Will try removing that update and see what happens.

We have tried removing shares and re-adding. Removing and re-adding both NTFS and share permissions. Looking for spurious errors in event viewer. Blocking all GPOs in case there was a policy applied that shouldnt have been. Restarted servers and domain controllers. Flushing DNS caches. Interestingly, it seems to be ok when using the name, but not IP or FQDN. Next thing we will try is removing updates and removing/rejoin to domain.

comment Merge Live VMware hosts into existing vcenter
So once added added to vCenter, I can power off the VM, and use the migrate option to "Change host and Datastore", and move it to a local store on one of the other hosts. Power it up to confirm working, then migrate to the SAN datastore? Sounds simpler than I had feared :D

comment Merge Live VMware hosts into existing vcenter
While the CPU difference would allow adding the host to the vCenter server, I thought I might need to use EVC to ensure that the VM can be powered up on a host with a different CPU. I think that may only apply to a different family though, so as they are the same family CPU, might not affect me.

That's right. I want to free up the standalone server, so I can wipe it, install 5.5, and integrate without new vCenter datacentre.

comment Link server 2012 account picture with active directory
Interestingly, when I look in the users profile, appdata, roaming, microsoft, windows, account pictures, I can see a single image there and it is the image I set as the new display picture. However, on the start menu, it still shows the default image. Not sure why this image isn't being applied.

Thanks for that. Yes I must admit, I had come across many tools that do this. I was hoping for a more integrated solution, but obviously if they are not linked then that isn't really feasible. Out of interest, do you know where the 2012 account image is stored? We use central profile disks, so I would like to think they are stored in the user profile? I need to figure out why they do not persist after a log out.

comment Store scheduled tasks in user profile
Yes it's a tricky one, as half the reason we are heavily investigating in the idea of a farm, is to provide some high availability. Should anything happen to that one server, a farm allows them to continue working as normal.

comment Using AirPort DHCP relay agent info to assign IP by policy from server 2012
Thanks Joe. I think my solution is to enable relay-agent on the port the AirPort is connected to on our Cisco switch. Then set a subscriber ID, and use that to set a DHCP policy. Once I have tested, I will add as an answer.

comment Add multi monitor option to remote desktop web access
Hi Michael, thanks for that answer. I will try to find time to try it out and check it works. I assume what it is doing, is replacing a checkbox for one option (which you say is broken and will never work) with a checkbox that controls multimon?

comment Moving X400 address to user's new mailbox, internal NDR
Ah yes of course, this will certainly work. I was just trying to fully move it over now, so that if the old mailbox has to be completely removed, I didn't have to revisit this issue. Perhaps I will leave that for if/when that solution is needed. Please feel free to add the above as an answer and I will mark it so.

comment Moving X400 address to user's new mailbox, internal NDR
It would be nice, but I don;t think that works as the internal addressing used by exchange is not the SMTP address, it is the X400 address. This means that anyone who has previously typed the address has an autocomplete entry which will no longer work, as it will be pointing to the x400 address ont he old mailbox.

Thanks all. Just did some testing with VSS in my test environment, and it works exactly as I had hoped. It's fantastic, and I feel ashamed for not having looked at it sooner!!

The whole test environment is server 2012 R2. This is also what we will be building our live environment on.

We don't want to eliminate backups as such, we just want users to be able to restore documents they have deleted without our intervention. My understanding is that shadow copy would still require us to restore the document for them? @joeqwerty the only reason I described our RDP scenario, is in case it had an effect on suggestions, as I am sure different scenarios call for different solutions.

Thanks Hopeless, appreciate the link and location of GPO. Now I just need to investigate how to create the root cert :D

Thanks guys, that certainly makes sense. I will try to get this implemented with our new deployment, as it does sound like it will be very beneficial. I will mark MDMarra's answer as such, only because I think he answered just before you HopelessN00b :)
