comment Redirect all subdomains to main domain with lighttpd and regex
Updated with an explicit reference to mod_redirect, and tested on a simple host. Should be OK now.

comment Nginx redirecting domain to port 8000 with a 301
That output looks suspiciously like it was called from wordpress - so I'd check on the settings there, if you installed it when running on port 8000, before updating DNS, then it'll remember that ...

comment Remote_Addr doesn't work after apache upgrade
Are you sure? nginx will set the headers, but Apache won't know about them. If you have magic-code that checks the headers I could believe it, but most code just uses ENV{'REMOTE_ADDR'} and apache won't update that without mod_rpaf, or mod_headers.

comment How do I make the server response faster on search results (WP, nginx, apc)
For searching that is unlikely to help; since people won't search for the same thing multiple times. Certainly it will help for overall responsiveness though.

comment cannot set a virtualhost name with nginx
If the MIME-type is wrong that is because nginx doesn't recognize the extension. Fix that by either using "types" inside nginx, or updating the mime.types file that nginx is using - probably /etc/mime.types.

comment hidden all files public_html! but how?
I use a node.js server to serve a website, it will happily return HTML, JSON, and PNGS. You're really not giving us enough information to go on so I'm afraid you're not likely to get an answer.

comment hidden all files public_html! but how?
node.js runs as a server. apache runs as a server. WHICH ONE is returning the 404s?

comment exim instances like feature
Doesn't really change my answer too much. In short php->exim4. exim4->smart-host. If that second step fails it'll be queued and will be retried. I'd suggest just updating the retry times to try every 5-10 minutes, and avoiding the complexity. If your smarthost is down then something is broken pretty badly anyway ..
