revised install the same debian packages on another system
Just now verified that `aptitude search -F '%p' '~i!~M' > file` and `aptitude search -F '%100p' '~i!~M' > file` produce identical output. Improved usage to beat the 6-char-edit requirement.

[insert your own linebreaks, since http://serverfault.com/editing-help#linebreaks lies] Regarding package restore: this will need to be done as root, no? If so,
The xargs in your restore commandline= xargs aptitude --schedule-only install < package_list; aptitude install; makes me want to know,
1. Why does aptitude need the xargs? dpkg --set-selections doesn't.
2. Presuming aptitude does need the xargs, where to put one or more sudos in your restore commandline? Or otherwise get root for running that line, presuming that's necessary.

comment What is “the meaning” of this `ip route`?
@"Michael Hampton♦": "of course [this must be] done this way so as not to override the default route, which has to be left alone in order to carry the VPN traffic itself." "Of course" :-) I'd like to be able to say that in this matter (et many al :-), but I lack the knowledge. Can you recommend a useful/efficient high-level reference on "how VPNs work," or should I just web-search?
