no, I have the infrastructure (servers, networks), I just need ideas on how to manage the infrastructure then use it to reliably host websites.

Thanks, I think I'm going to put the DB server on an external server on the same network then have several apache servers which access a shared file server of the web files.

@ warren So when it gets 1000's of hits it does not go down. @polynomial The data changes all the time (the main problem) the slaves need to be access really in a which one has the least load on it. MySQL is currently just a single server, serving the data to WP. We do know a little bit when sites will increase load, but there is not much we can do apart from add more ram and bandwidth.

Thats exactly the answer I was looking for, I think I'm going to group websites in which they have their own mysql master/slave. I have used HAProxy before, so that as well and apache web server instances to serve the content.

@Chris-Top virtual hosts has got nothing to do with Cloud computing... Using virtual hosts is what I'm doing at the moment on 20 different dedicated servers running over 200 websites. I'm talking about a scalable system where new machines can be added with no configuration to the "cloud" and then add to the redundancy and load for the websites.
