Seeks are often slower on the big commercial drives because it takes longer to find the right data track.

comment Advantages and disadvantages of ARM vs x-86 processors in future laptops
Most of GCC's optimizations happen regardless of the instruction set being compiled for. In fact, GCC is one of the more used ARM compilers already.

comment What is ECC ram and why is it better?
I disagree with the article. I think everyone should be using ECC. I wasn't going to give in but I wanted a new Core I7 enough that I finally did. However, I am sure my 6GB of RAM are picking up errors all over the place.

A bit error in a number anywhere, including someone's small business finance package can be very small or very large. It all depends on what bit.

comment Do you consider Java on your Linux server to be a problem?
I consider any Java software that won't run on the very newest 1.6 JVM in both 32 and 64 bit mode to be horribly broken.

I thought that Shadow Copy existed in all versions of Vista and Win7 (used by the OS for restore points, forex), it just isn't available for use by user except in some versions.

In all fairness to the customer Kara, they do have a point. The way your software is written no doubt assumed "Latency is zero", which I see in almost all DB access software.
