Those were just general tips - the attack was most likely automated, and bots will just move on if connection is refused from port 22. I didn't say it's a life saver.

Fine tuned control? PackageKit lets a normal user update the machine without access to root, but ONLY update! not install software or anything else. I believe there's misunderstanding, probably my wording are wrong.
