Hire Me!

As of December 2013, I am looking to depart from my self-owned consultancy and go to work at an exciting, growing business that has truckloads of fun problems to solve.

Learn About Me!

I'm a generalist Systems Administrator. I design and implement systems that rely on Linux and Windows servers, wired and wireless networks, storage of all types, and insert_buzzword(); I like Chef and Ruby, but long walks on the beach get sand in my shoes and that's not okay.

My Gravatar is from Troy Snow's photography. Check him out at his Flickr page and tell him I sent you: http://www.flickr.com/photos/troysnow/ . Even though we tend to use the same goofy kitten face as an avatar, we are not the same person and have no affiliation. Other than good taste in avatars, anyway.

comment How is it possible to receive Access Denied errors even after assigning the right permissions?
Hmmm... I thought an inherited deny overrode everything. Clearly my permissions skills are musty. =)

Perhaps we should back up a bit. How did you get apt on your Mac in the first place since it's not shipped with OS X?

Did you use MacPorts or Fink to get apt-get on your Lion box? Fink doesn't support Lion yet.

@Joeqwerty Yeah, that's what I was thinking too. I was going off of some anecdotal evidence that I've experienced where I thought access based permissions still weren't working until some time had passed. Cargo Cult Administration at its finest. =)

comment Simulating a missing superblock error on EXT4 linux system
@jdcasey If you're overwriting all superblocks on a volume, then you're certainly hosing the filesystem right proper. Is it exactly what needs to be done to get the error you want? In theory, it should certainly give you a missing superblock error.
