Just to be thorough, can you include your /etc/mongod.conf file?

Also, look for relevant messages in /var/log/messages concerning port 27017 or socket assignment failure - I suspect something is already running on that port. What happens when you simply run mongo?

What does this show you: netstat -lnptu | grep 27017

If you don't follow the rules, don't be surprised if you get bit. Active Directory is a reasonable system requirement... unless you have a religious and irrational hatred for Windows.

comment Access RBSU on ML350 G6 remotely
@Karl You need an ILO Advanced license for the remote graphical console (as well as Terminal Services pass-through). ILO Standard still allows SSH access, and furthermore you can access the RBSU as if it were a serial console, but the catch 22 is that in the BIOS you have to set up the Virtual Serial Port (VSP) to support BIOS serial console options. For more info see the RBSU manual which is quite extensive in its discussion of these topics.

comment Routing to multiple apps in a LAN with domains.
@JakeGould I have never in my couple decades of mucking with computers ever heard anyone say that multiple IP addresses assigned to a NIC is in any way unstable or a "recipe for a mess." It's one of the most stable, most common, and least problematic things one can do with a network stack.

Yes, a $ is what is expected. If there's nothing else, then that should mean it's fine.

Also, are you sure that your Apache configuration is set to look at the proper file(s) in the SSLCertificateFile and SSLCertificateKeyFile directives?

comment Virtualhosts - making available only certain websites without root folder
A development box behind a dynamic IP address managed by D-Link dynamic DNS service. There are so many unprofessional variables at play here that 1) The question is not a good fit for ServerFault, and 2) Even if you manage to get it to work for you, it's a house of cards made of tissue paper just begging to be set on fire and kicked apart.

comment Setting up dev environments with big databases
Have you considered separating the database from the Vagrant LAMP stack? Have a separate database server not included in your Vagrant machine. Change the connection strings in the application to point to the external test database. PArt of your rollout procedure would then be to change connection strings to point to the production data sets.
