This is a personnel problem. Get your boss involved with his boss. Technology cannot solve this problem.

@philippe Raspberry Pi boards are considered off topic for the reasons discussed here: meta.serverfault.com/q/5586/9770

comment Server only reachable over VPN
Reading the question or not is irrelevant. Packages behave oddly on RPs, also this could in the networking stack, which would be even worse on a RP. Either way, the entire question / environment is tainted once a RP is involved.

comment Server only reachable over VPN
This question is being voted for closure because it prominently involves hardware (raspberry pi) that is not what is generally considered “professional grade” and may itself be causing the problem, or actively hindering a repeatable and consistent solution.

comment MongoDB frequently switching primaries
@Nucleon Run MongoDB with the most verbose logging: docs.mongodb.org/manual/reference/configuration-options/… However, the mongod isn't really itself going to know anything about why. The path lies outside of the processes. Probably some tcpdumping is in order.

Side note, you shouldn't be using Google DNS as your upstream resolvers. Use root hints.

ICMP is disabled in Azure, so ping isn't a good troubleshooting tool.

comment Server destroying and burning my Hard Drives
@Bunkai.Satori There is no professional solution with the constraints you've imposed. It's like asking for a Ferrari, but demanding it's made out of straw and dead cats.

comment Is there a way to find out why MySQL crashed or quit working?
@jasondavis You probably won't want to be writing a shell script for this kind of thing. That's last millennium, and prone to breaking very quickly with any change in OS and package versions. You'll want to look into something like Chef or Puppet, and since you have a focus on coding, you'll fit right in to that kind of thing. TL;DR Don't make bash build scripts, use config management like Chef or Puppet.
