I'm a professional web developer for the agency Kyan based in the Guildford, England. Ruby on Rails is my weapon on choice and I happily use it daily. In the past I've worked on all sorts of things ranging from stuff for major car manufacturers through to brand sites for household names.
Unlike some developers, I want to make software work better for the people who use it. I like to solve actual problems for actual people. More developers seem more interested in making their invisible-to-everyone-else code more beautiful.
I've got tons of experience in the web, remembering the deep dark days of before CSS. You name it, I've probably seen it.
