There's a linux server with some .net core apps running on it using kestrel. I use FTP publish profile from visual studio to push updates to apps. Sometimes, files are locked as the app is currently running and deployment fails. So, is there a convenient way to automatically stop and start applications while still being able to deploy with few clicks from visual studio? I don't expect you to write configurations for me- just name an approach you think will work.

  • I don't understand much of what you have written above, so this might be needlessly complez, but if all else fails you can use Fail2Ban to monitor for an FTP connection and then take an arbitrary action like restart an app. – davidgo May 19 at 8:58
