Your certficates are configured incorrectly, most likely on the server side. This is indicated by this line:

/opt/puppetlabs/puppet/lib/ruby/vendor_gems/gems/puppetserver-ca-1.8.0/lib/puppetserver/ca/utils/http_client.rb:144:in add_file': system lib (OpenSSL::X509::StoreError)

  • These certificates came with the default installation only, I didn't configure them, could you please guide how to rectify this. Commented Aug 6, 2020 at 8:38
  • @UdayKiranReddy I hope this helps: puppet.com/docs/puppet/7.3/…

  • @UdayKiranReddy I've been down this road before, if you don't properly add them to a DNS server and then regenerate your certificates you get errors like this, if I recall correctly.

I observed the same stack trace on a newly installed Puppet server. The problem was solved with the help of Puppet Server documentation for Regenerating certificates in a Puppet deployment. In this case, the directory /etc/puppetlabs/puppet/ssl was empty, i.e., no CA was automatically generated during the installation of the puppetserver package. Therefore, phases 2–3 & 5–7 from step 1 solved the problem.

On the Puppet server:

sudo puppet resource service puppet ensure=stopped
sudo puppet resource service puppetserver ensure=stopped
sudo puppetserver ca setup
sudo puppet resource service puppetserver ensure=running
sudo puppet resource service puppet ensure=running

Attention! If you already had Puppet CA set up, you would like to backup the directory first and remove it (step 1 phases 1 & 3) and continue with the steps 2 & 3.
