I'm quite new to mongodb and I need some good advices :)

I have a mongodb 3.2 service running for a slowly growing 6Gb database on an Ubuntu 16.04 VPS for a Nodejs Parse Server application.

In the mongod.conf I just have authorization: enabled that is the only addition made in the default config. I have 2Gb left on the VPS hard drive and no backup strategy in place so I want to migrate the production database to a managed db service that includes backups like MongoDB Atlas and I have a few questions.

  • Which managed service do you recommend ?
  • What is the workflow you recommend to migrate data to the managed service ?
  • How to you handle the version upgrade from 3.2 to 4.x ? (last is 4.4 I think)
  • Can I simply shut down the production, do a mongodump of the 3.2 and mongorestore it directly on a 4.4 on Atlas ?

I can afford a downtime on the production I think if I do this at night.

I really need your advices on this, I can't lose data or break the application.

Thanks in advance for your help !
