I installed nginx and php-fpm on my server. When I run "service php5-fpm status" I only get status: Unknown job: php5-fpm The only way to start FPM for me is to run php5-fpm -D But it won't start on server boot.

Do you have any idea?

Then you are missing the init script /etc/init.d/php5-fpm. Just create it with -rwxr-xr-x permissions. This is for Debian Wheezy

#!/bin/sh
### BEGIN INIT INFO
# Provides:          php-fpm php5-fpm
# Required-Start:    $remote_fs $network
# Required-Stop:     $remote_fs $network
# Default-Start:     2 3 4 5
# Default-Stop:      0 1 6
# Short-Description: starts php5-fpm
# Description: Starts The PHP FastCGI Process Manager Daemon
### END INIT INFO

  • I have this script with these permissions.

  • Do you have the exact same script?

  • Now I have. Via /etc/init.d/php5-fpm it works now, but via service php5-fpm not

  • Have you installed upstart, by any chance? (dpkg -l | grep upstart)

  • Yes I do. Now I added a crontab @reboot command, it's fine for now.
