I'm trying to install mbstring extension for the new version of php - 5.6.21. I ran the following command:

sudo yum install php56w-mbstring

to install package from webtatic yum repository. The following response is displayed:

Package php56w-mbstring-5.6.21-1.w7.x86_64 already installed and latest version
Nothing to do

Now, when I try to login to phpMyAdmin I see error:

The mbstring extension is missing. Please check your PHP configuration.

I looked up location of the installed package with

rpm -ql php56w-mbstring

and according to the displayed info package is uploaded to /usr/lib64/php/modules/mbstring.so, but in phpinfo another directory is set as "extension directory" - /usr/lib64/php/5.6/modules

What I should do now to make extension visible to php 5.6? I was thinking of just copying mbstring.so file to the right destination, but I would like to know why package was installed in different location in the first place.

  • Hi, I also got the same issue. Have you found any solution? – Sadee Sep 5 '16 at 15:38
