I have a small wordpress site on an EC2 linux server. I noticed that I was using up a lot of memory for a site getting 0 traffic, and upon checking my access log saw a bunch of requests, about 1 per second, coming from a single IP.

I proceeded to delete the file in question, it wasn't needed anyway, and block the IP address through deny all in the sites .htaccess file. Now, looking at my access log I'm seeing the requests are still coming but are 403 as expected.

My question is, how performance intensive is all of these requests? Could it potentially cause any issues and is there a better way to deal with this?

  • Not very intensive at all. Was it xmlrpc.php this IP was hitting? – ceejayoz Nov 28 '16 at 20:42
