I am connected to my server through SSH but it doesn't ping external address, it stuck when I try with:

root@benchmark:~# ping google.com

PING google.com (172.217.23.206) 56(84) bytes of data.

--- google.com ping statistics ---

6 packets transmitted, 0 received, 100% packet loss, time 5038ms

I'm able to connect only to Ip addresses at the same network, when I use apt-get it stucks on connecting:

root@benchmark:~# apt-get update

0% [Connecting to httpredir.debian.org (5.153.231.35)] [Connecting to security.d

I don't know what to do anymore, seems like no one had this error before, I will leave some test commands here:

root@benchmark:~# iptables -L

Chain INPUT (policy ACCEPT)

target prot opt source destination

Chain FORWARD (policy ACCEPT)

target prot opt source destination

Chain OUTPUT (policy ACCEPT)

target prot opt source destination

Contact your service provider. – Michael Hampton Feb 1 '17 at 9:22
  • ping 172.217.23.206 ? check if your dns is up and running (might check your /etc/resolf.conf). If that also fails, then probably the gateway is not set correctly, do you use dhcp ? – Roger Feb 1 '17 at 10:26
