My web server (VM) was running perfectly with no issues and we made no changes in the configurations. Suddenly, we started finding issues accessing (eg. request to website goes timed out) the server, and found it killed Apache/mysql process and in the console we are getting the errors as per the attached image. enter image description here

We restarted the server and the issue got fixed for a while but appeared again.

I have no idea what caused this issue. How we may fix it or where to look for some more clues?

Update: from Apache error log I see:

[error] server reached MaxClients setting, consider raising the MaxClients setting

  • I assume some process is eating all your memory. Can you post the output of 'ps aux --sort -rss | head' and the output of dmesg? Preferable when things already started going wrong?

  • @Zabuzzman thanks for your reply. I posted this like 7 days back. I found the issue. It was apache that was eating all my memory and it happened due to a DOS attack. I blocked the IP that was causing the attack and now everything is back to normal. Jul 30, 2017 at 19:40
