trying to figure out how to fix this. I have two sites connected through an IPSec VPN, with an Ubuntu 18.04 box at site A mounting over the VPN to an NFS server at site B. Works great, except: every few days, the mount goes stale and requires a reboot or manual unmount and re-mount. How can I fix this?

I am currently mounting with the following in my fstab. I've tried a bunch of options, none of which seem to fix the mount from going stale.

192.168.15.25:/mnt/media /mnt/media nfs ro,fsc,soft,async,bg,intr,timeo=100,retrans=5,actimeo=10,retry=5

192.168.15.25 is the NFS server at the remote site, connect through the VPN.

  • Stop using NFSv3. Use at minimum NFSv4. NFSv3 is almost 20 years out of date and is extremely unreliable. – Michael Hampton Jul 20 '18 at 16:08
