I have ansible detecting the ansible_user variable based on the local $USER environment variable for team members running on their local machine. This happens via a filter in the group vars. However, when running from a common system (e.g. Ansible Tower), the ansible_user is set via -u on the command line.

The end result (currently) is that ansible_user is getting messed up by group variable override.

I've tried using a custom filter and default(omit) and gotten it to blow away the ansible_user variable entirely. However, I can't figure out how to get it to fall back to a lower precedence variable.
