I am struggeling with smartd.conf and disk auto-test/emails.
My settings now:
I set my MAILADDR in mdadm.conf and also ran smartd.service and ever since iam receiving info about disk failures, but seemingly in very random way (times to be exact). Single emails about SMART errors are coming at 1:18, 2:48, 4:48, 6:25, 8:18, 11:18, 13:18, 16:18 - that was example of yesterday "randomness", times vary every day.
The email contains info about for example:
Device: /dev/sdo [SAT], 2 Offline uncorrectable sectors Device: /dev/sdaj [SAT], 1 Offline uncorrectable sectors Device: /dev/sdbo [SAT], 1 Offline uncorrectable sectors
About which honestly i really don't care, its really no big deal - i would like to receive emails like that maybe once a week, to check if the number is increasing and its time to be proactive and change HDD. On the other side, emails about DegradedArray, Sparse missing or such are welcome, but they are also coming from "mdadm monitoring" as fot others - SMART errors are coming straight from root. So i suppose those are two different alarms. First looks like default smratd.service and other as mdadm (my mail set in mdadm.conf)
Its bit confusing and annoying - telling me about single sector failures every day on old HDDs is not really necessary so i wonder if i can change the frequency of sending certain types of emails - doing certain tests.
I red articles on internet and I tried to customize the tests per my colleague advice using smartd.conf

but its not working i would say. Iam not receiving any emails about results of short/long test and disks seems not to be tested anyway. But iam still receiving what i think is results of default tests of smartd.
