I own an Engenio 4600 FC shelf, which works apart from flaws regarding missing diagnostics pages quite well as a JBOD in combination with Linux and ZFS.

The only problem I need to solve is if I exchange a disk, the newly plugged one won't spin up and is therefore not recognized by kernel and multipathing. However, During reboot, all disks spin up properly.

Is there any known way to spin up disks apart from rescan-scsi-bus.sh respectively echo "- - -" > /sys/class/scsi_host/host*/scan? I assume this should be some fc command, but sg_start is not appropriate, as there is no device (yet) to address. What does the kernel during reboot to spin up the disks?
