We were using the following query to create the external file format in Azure SQL DWH. And it was working fine.

CREATE EXTERNAL FILE FORMAT striim_admin_AzureTarget_FILE_FORMAT
WITH (FORMAT_TYPE = DELIMITEDTEXT, FORMAT_OPTIONS( FIELD_TERMINATOR = '|', STRING_DELIMITER = '\n' ) );

But currently with latest versions :

SELECT @@VERSION AS 'version';

Microsoft Azure SQL Data Warehouse - 10.0.9999.0 Feb 6 2019 12:05:04 Copyright (c) Microsoft Corporation

The query is failing with the following error.

com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerException: CREATE EXTERNAL FILE FORMAT statement failed because FIELD_TERMINATOR and STRING_DELIMITER cannot contain the same characters or row terminator characters (\n, \r, \r\n).

Can someone please explain when was this condition/limitation introduced?
