I'm trying to use Plone v5.1 / Zope as limited WebDAV Server. Maybe, it was not built for this useage, but the server is running and could use another function.

The problem is, that any non-ASCII filename is complained about and the request is rejected:

2019-05-13T13:13:33 ERROR Zope.SiteErrorLog 1557746013.370.660165719891 http://example.de:9800/inf/de/it/H%C3%B6h/MKCOL BadRequest: The id "Höh" contains characters illegal in URLs. "MKCOL /inf/de/it/Höh/ HTTP/1.1" 400 225 "" "dave/v2.00 (perldav)"

I'm pretty sure that I cannot change Zope/Plone to accept those names, because the string is used internally as id. However, I could be wrong.

With the Apache frontend I could probably use a 'External Rewriting Program' as mentioned on http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/mod/mod_rewrite.html, in order to get the filenames mangled, when uploading them into Plone. This would be a move. However, I would like to "reverse" this mangling step, so the user sees the original filename.

Say, the request is MKCOL /inf/de/it/Höh/ , Apache rewrites it into: MKCOL /inf/de/it/+-H-C3-B6h/ using +- as marker for mangled ids and "-" as replacement for %-encoded characters. Is there a way to have the Proxy-Engine to use rewriting as well?
