I am looking at setting up VLAN tagging or Ethernet tagging on the host machine. Specifically on a machine running CentOS 7. In CentOS network devices are defined in text in the folder /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts.

Looking at the the puppet module example42/network there is both a parameter VLAN_ID and VID, both names indicating that they specify the VLAN's identifying number.

I found the manual page for the entire /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts folder in /usr/share/doc/initscripts*/sysconfig.txt with the help of a user on the IRC channel #centos@freenode. But in it there is no mention of neither VLAN_ID nor VID.

So the question remains: What is the difference between VLAN_ID and VID in ifcfg-files in etc/sysconfig/network-scripts?
