We have a VM on GCP with windows server.

The machine gets shutdown over night and then starts up again in the morning everyday using Cloud scheduler. Auto log in in was setup in Windows registry.

The problem is that I have to go the instance page on GCP then connect via RDP to the machine, enter the credentials and then it will login to Windows.

Can this process be automated as Windows must be logged in so that the app work.

  • AutoLogon for windows is pretty good documented. But you should run your application as a service instead. – Gerald Schneider Dec 6 '19 at 9:21
  • Thank you for your reply, I'm running XAMPP, I ticked the service on each of module and placed the shortcut into the startup apps (Windows sever 2016) but still after restarting the server the XAMPP is not starting by itself and I can't access the web app. Please is this the documentation link to auto login to virtual machine cloud.google.com/compute/docs/instances/… – Beamco I.T. • @GeraldSchneider please advise if the link above is the correct one to use, thank you – Beamco I.T. Dec 10 '19 at 7:34
  • Of course it's not. It's about remote management of linux instances, while you are running windows. Just google for Windows AutoLogon. We don't recommend external resources here. – Gerald Schneider Dec 10 '19 at 7:37
  • @GeraldSchneider Thank you for your reply, the auto logon on Windows was set already, but what I need to automate is the lgoin to this: ibb.co/DQC7N8q because windows Logon is not working until you login to this page in GCP – Beamco I.T. Dec 10 '19 at 8:49
