SAS 3.0 cabling without a backplane - SFF-8680 vs SFF-8482

From my comment: SFF-8482 and SFF-8680 are essentially the same connector (fitting to a drive's back), the former SAS2-compliant, the latter also SAS3-compliant. With HDDs, this won't matter in ...

How does HP DL380e G8 support 12 sas disks

In short: the cables are to connect to the backplane, not directly to disks on that backplane. The cables don't result in a straight wire (with 1 disk on 1 lane) from HBA to a specific disk. The ...

Issue with LSI SAS2116 - no drives being detected on Fedora 32 kernel 5.8.*

The issue is related to how the driver for the newer Broadcom/LSI Tri-Mode cards allocate large amounts of DMA memory for the very high 32455 default queue depth in the latest driver. This is ...

Can a drive connected to a P410 SmartArray in a single drive "RAID 0" be read on a normal HBA?

What is the difference between a HBA card and a RAID card?

HBA is an interface to a scsi protocol bus (whether that's parallel scsi, SAS or FC - it's just that we got out of the habit of calling parallel scsi controllers "scsi HBAs" a couple of decades ago.) ...
