ProFTPd : SFTP "get" command is denied (when "put" works ok)
The RETR (and READ also) command have to be added in the "/" section, not only in the "/ou" section. So with correction it looks like this :

How can I set specific directory for different users in proftp?
The solution provided by TheTanadu did not work for me either.
What it worked was this:
DefaultRoot /backup/usera userAgroup
DefaultRoot /mydir userBgroup
DefaultRoot /upload
